An Airstream Travel Blog // Fab Finds Tuesday via J5MM.com

  1. Glamping fashion at its finest — add this darling fleece neck warmer by Skida to your winter fashion repertoire. With a gentle reminder of summer flowers inspired by Monet, it will surely brighten up any winter day.
  2. I’ll be making this warm skillet bread and artichoke spinach dip this winter.  No question.  It not only seems as if it would be time saving but also an incredibly delicious appetizer or dinner even — served up with a salad.  Find the beautiful recipe here
  3. This is my new perfect coffee making vessel called the Chemex.  I love it for its versatility in multi-use from a coffee maker to start, to a flower vase and lastly, a wine decanter anymore?  Plus it’s beautiful . . .
  4. I can never stop obsessing over cute cutlery for my trailer.  Thanks Anthropologie for this new release.  Gold dots or black ones.  Your choice and oh so lovely!

Peace & Love XOXO

~ Monica

Fishing the Cle Elum River in Washington State via J5MM.com

As sure as the summer sun sets and the big moon rises, my heart is drawn to this river that runs just beyond our property.  I call him Mr. River (and I love him).  Hubby doesn’t seem to mind.

It is here where I feel most at peace.  It is here where most of my summer is spent fly fishing, writing, crafting and frolicking about with Oliver.  Mr. River flows not only through the windy channel he has carved out, but also through my heart.  Our hearts.  I feel my brother is here too.

To get to Mr. River, we must travel through gravely back roads.  Only a few people know of this and I feel proud I can navigate when I do come here alone.

To begin our days spent with Mr. River, we enjoy early mornings on our property with simple breakfasts . . .

Mr. River’s friends, the tall trees that live along his banks, give B a gift of a bark puzzle.  He is mesmerized by it.

Some days I fish and other days I sit alongside Mr. River and create.  Sometimes I come with hubby and B and sometimes I come alone. I dip my toes into the water and make sage bundles.  I listen to Mr. River gently talk to me as I craft. He tells me that when I am here, with him, everything in the world is right. I love him.

The days spent with Mr. River are warm and when we come back to camp, the wind picks up with a slight chill to it.  We make ourselves at home and I prepare a pot of comforting chicken stew.  I love cooking in my silver kitchen.

I make Mr. River Earrings.  They serve as a reminder of him and my summer spent here.  The blue stone is for his rushing waters, the chain symbolizes his swiftly flowing movement, the red is for the wild berries that grow alongside his banks and also the strawberries that live alongside my coalminers cabin.  The brown agate stone reminds me of the spotty skin of his trout, or the slippery stones I carefully and gently walk upon — and the pink gem reminds me of the sparkles that radiate off his waters.

Rafting in Hells Canyon

Sitting on the edge of the Airstream bed while petting Oliver, B watches me with a curious eye as I pack his dry bag.  A nice {big} dry bag that Kurt and Heidi from Hells Canyon Raft dropped off with us at our campsite at the McCall RV Resort.  Tomorrow morning we begin a multi-day whitewater rafting trip with them. Where the Snake River heads north and carves the border between Idaho and Oregon, it forms the infamous Hells Canyon which happens to be the deepest gorge in North America (and deeper than the Grand Canyon!) and just happens to be where our rafting trip will take us . . . Peak to Valley Airstream Road Trip via J5MM.comCampfire Cookout via J5MM.com

It’s getting close to one week when we returned from a beautiful summer road trip through Idaho and Oregon.  In between working in corporate America, taking care of hubby and B, walking Oliver and the rest of the usual day to day activities I am doing my best to sort through all of the photographs I took during our Peak to Valley adventure.  I call it Peak to Valley because our trip took us from the peaks of alpine life in McCall, Idaho to the valleys down below where Hells Canyon in Idaho and the Deschutes river in Oregon call home. When traveling with an RV there are many benefits to be had.  Take for example the fact that you have all the comforts of home with you including a fully equipped kitchen.  Sure it’s probably smaller than your kitchen at home, but with a little organization and planning, you can easily whip up the same healthy meals you do for your family at home, but on the road.

What’s better is that you’re actually on the road.  Traveling.  Exploring.  Seeking out new adventures.  Can you imagine a better way to experience the “here and now,” than visiting a local market where you just happen to be seeking out the freshest, in season goodies to cook a meal with?  Take it to the next level and talk to some locals shopping in the market.  Ask them how they like to cook those “in season” ingredients.  More often than not, you’ll make a new friend and come back to your RV inspired, ready to cook. Suncadia and Tumble Creek in the Wenatchee National Forest Setting

When hubby and I first met, one of our very first trips taken together was to the Bennett cabin which is located next to the Wenatchee National Forest.  I’ve heard a lot about this cabin and how it took many, many years for the Bennett family to build, by hand — all themselves.  No machinery here, just pulley systems and lots of muscles to get the logs one on top of the other. Springtime In The Forest via J5MM.com

This forest, right behind my house is a very special place for me.  For almost 15 years I’ve been retreating to mothers nature’s magical playground to think, clear my mind and take in the fresh air.

There is no time better in my opinion, to hike these woods than in the Springtime.  Little flower buds are popping out of woody dangly branches, the curly fiddleheads of the fern plant begin to slowly emerge and colorful flower blossoms seem to bend your way as you walk by so you can admire their beauty.

Oliver and I set off on a hike the morning before Easter to experience all the beauty that lay in these woods.  As we hiked along, I thought about Easter dinner the following evening.  The Bennett family was coming over and I always love to cook for them.

Today would be a test run of some of the appetizer and side dishes I had in mind to serve and I could hardly wait to get started.  Practice menu runs for me not only give me peace of mind the following day when cooking, it also gives me the opportunity to fine tune and perfect any given recipe. Bonner County Fairgrounds in Sandpoint, ID with our Airstream 2014

There’s always a day during our trips where I like to take it easy.  Easy as in, taking my good ol’ sweet time in the morning preparing breakfast and then heading out the Airstream door to really get acquainted with whatever town we are in.  Ever since arriving in the town of Sandpoint I’ve been eager to check it out.  Since hubby was off on his own skiing with his friend Tom, it was the perfect day to do this.

Schweitzer Mountain Resort Guided Snowshoeing Hikes

Snowshoeing was big for me at Schweitzer Mountain Resort.  Did you know?  Schweitzer is the largest resort in Idaho and Washington with 2900 acres of amazing terrain and renowned tree skiing located in the rugged Selkirk Mountains.  It was in these these mountains where I enjoyed many days of snowshoeing enjoying the peacefulness of nature while getting a great workout. If you love to ski but are looking to switch up your days with another winter sport, snowshoeing here at Schweitzer Mountain Resort is truly a once in a lifetime experience.  On guided tours you meet at the Information Center which is next to the Selkirk Lodge, get your gear and head out with your group up the chairlift and begin your hike.  Want to go at it alone or with a group?  No problem — enjoy the great trail system where you can hike  to your hearts content.  Just make sure to fuel up with a hearty breakfast that will keep you going all morning long before you head out ♥
