“Mommy?  Mommy, are you still sleeping?” B is whispering this into my ear as I sleep  . . .

I don’t say a word, hoping he will take pity on his poor tired and sleepy mom and let me be, for at least a moment longer.

“Mommy?  Mommy?”

This boy of mine.  No matter what time he goes to bed, as soon as the crack of dawn is upon us, he is up and at ’em.

“B — we are on vacation — you can sleep in if you want . . .” I try and convince him.

He is still standing next to me, I can feel his presence — he is probably pondering his next move . . .

Then hubby says, “Good Morning B,” with all smiles (I can hear him smiling, does that make sense?)  and he is next to rise and now it’s official, our day has begun.  But after the fog clears from my sleepy head, I am grateful for the early morning wake up call.  I look outside and see that the clouds moved out overnight and a beautiful pastel sunrise is on its way.

These two posts of mine covering our trip to Kalaloch Beach State Park is proof of the Olympic Peninsula’s moody weather behavior.  Cloudy, cozy and drizzling one day and the next?  Nothing but blue skies.  I took at least a million pictures.

Hubby and B headed down to the beach for a game of soccer while Oliver and I pulled ourselves together and made a skillet breakfast fit for an Olympic Peninsula king :)

The Road To Kalaloch State Park on the Olympic Peninsula via J5MM.com // #Airstream #GoRVing

Hwy 101, as it meanders around and occasionally hugs the Washington coastline takes us to our last stop during our road trip through the Olympic Peninsula not too long ago.  I have shared our OP trips on GoRVing’s blog up until this one.  This one, I’ve been saving for J5MM.

Here is a map I designed detailing our road trip in visual detail with our three stops:

Come travel with me to the breathtaking Olympic Peninsula as we embark on a seven day journey visiting three idyllic campsites.  We begin the first leg of our trip with a visit to The Waterfront at Potlatch RV Park along the Hood Canal.  We spend our first day in the cool misty mountains that are just a hop skip and a jump away from camp adventuring in the rainforest.  After we return to camp along the waterfront where we dig for clams that will soon become our delicious dinner.  B makes new friends, I make a refreshing oyster appetizer with Oliver by my side and hubby relaxes.  We experience pastel sunsets unparalleled anywhere else all while in the loving company of each other and our sweet silver girl.  I hope you can join me at my new writing venue with GoRVing // The Scenic Route.

Shall we go?

I’m always amazed at how fast time goes when we’re on the road adventuring with our silver girl.  I guess the saying is true that time really does fly when you’re having fun.

We had a beautiful time exploring Washington’s coastline from south of Ocean Shores at Grayland Beach to the Olympic Peninsula — Kalaloch State Park.  We foraged for our own seafood from many varieties of clams (razors, manilla, butters, etc.) to dungeness crab and oysters.  I’ve always enjoyed my oysters raw on the half shell with just a squeeze of lime but this time I decided to make a cucumber shallot mignoette topping and oh my, what a flavor sensation that was.  We enjoyed a crab boil along the coast with our freshly caught crab and clam sliders were on order most days.  Speaking of clams, have you ever cooked with a razor clam straight from the shell?  It was an interesting experience for me.

Some non-seafood goodies we enjoyed on our trip were chocolate crepes, baked eggs in my trusty cast iron skillet as well as nostalgic  Toas-Tite campfire treats.  Cooking with our Toas-tite’s brought back sweet memories for me from my childhood days in Girl Scouts when our camp leader introduced this camping essential to us.  If you don’t know, you butter a piece of bread and place it in the round part of the Toas-Tite.  You then proceed to fill it up with whatever meltable filling you’d like (in our case – ham and swiss cheese).  Then you place another buttered piece of bread on top (the buttered side facing up) and close the griddle together creating a “seal” and then you cook it over an open flame.  About a minute per side.  It creates the most perfect little portion of heavenly melty goodness.

We spent our days exploring sandy beaches and enjoying pastel sunsets.  The weather was pretty and clear with no rain and then we had rain but it was all perfect for us.  On the cloudy days we enjoyed beach fires with our trusty One Log Fire.  Such a cute little “campfire to go,” that log fire is.  B carried it easily in his tiny hands and lit it without a hitch.

Evenings were peaceful inside the Airstream and early walks were guarantees with just Ollie and I.

I’m enjoying sifting through all of my photos and putting them together to share with you and soon I will have a grand post that details all of our doings during this trip.  It was a beautiful trip indeed and thank you for being here.  I love sharing our adventures with you xx

Thanks for being here,

With all my heart,

Monica

PS
While hubby, B, Ollie and I were on the road I learned that GoRVing published my story of our Airstream winter road trip through the sweet mountain town of McCall, Idaho.  If you would like to get a taste and feel for adventuring in McCall, you can travel with me here.  I also shared some things that I do for peace of mind when traveling with Ollie.

I hope you like it and I hope it inspires you to put McCall, ID on your travel bucket list.  We’ve been back twice already ♥

Northwesternmost Point of the USA Road Trip via J5MM.com

There was much to be thankful for over this past Thanksgiving holiday road trip of ours. I am no doubt so very thankful for my boys, our health, our silver girl and so much more.

I was also incredibly thankful for mother nature bestowing her generosity upon us with good weather during our holiday road trip.  One morning though, she did decide to pour buckets of rain down upon us but luckily our plans were to wrap up camp and head to our next destination.  As we drove, the gray skies turned blue and the sun shined so brightly, turning our surroundings into the most beautiful golden color.  The sky was also the most beautiful shade of blue I had ever seen.  Maybe it was just my imagination, but the color was different to me.  I took so many photos.  I just couldn’t help it.

We just got back home-home this Sunday from our trip.  On our trip we visited the quaint town of Port Townsend and glamped at the Point Hudson Marina and RV Park.  We then motored up along the windy, and sometimes white knuckle — coastal roads towards Hobuck Beach RV Resort where we secured a beautiful ocean view spot.

We did so much, together.  It was a special time and B couldn’t stop talking about what fun he had on our trip, during our drive home.

“It was the best trip mommy!  Thank you.”

That’s what makes my heart squeeze with happiness — this child of ours and these memories hubby and I are making for him.  As I looked out the truck window, I couldn’t help but get teary eyed thinking that one day, maybe, he will bring his family to these spots we visited and possibly, just possibly share his stories — his memories with us — with his family for his children to remember.

It’s now Tuesday, December 2nd as I type this.  I have so many photographs to sort through, but I love it all.  I’m looking forward to sharing a detailed story of our trip with you so that perhaps, if you are considering planning a trip out this way, you may consider visiting the places we have.

In the meantime, every night after work — after all the home chores are taken care of, I sit down at my work bench and craft silver inspired travel accessories.  I am hoping very much to update my Etsy shop this Sunday with silver goodies.  I’ve been working on two sets of earrings so far and they are just about the most beautiful little earrings ever.  Another leaf design (which has been very popular.  THANK YOU !!)  and a new silversmithing technique I have learned — a tiny concave silver bowl with teeny-tiny little silver drops inside.  They are small, delicate and very sweet.  I love them and I think you will too.

Please stay tuned  — they would make the loveliest gift for the Glamper in your life.

With all of my heart,

Monica xoxox

Airstream Trailer

When we were driving home from our Memorial Day Weekend Olympic Peninsula Loop — this RV park (called Rest-A-While RV Park) caught my eye and I made a note of it.  It looked really cute and was located right on the water.  Very pretty.  When the following Friday rolled around, we left after I got off work to come and check it out.  We made it in time for sunset.

The following morning was so relaxing as we were in no hurry to do anything but wait for the tide to go out to gather clams and oysters.   I prepared breakfast and coffee while the boys went for a walk.  Oliver decided to stay with me and continue snoozing away :)   Continue reading »

Airstream trailer road trip and glamping around the Olympic National Park

Map of Port Townsend Fort Worden

It was our last night glamping with our Airstream at Fort Worden State Park.  Around 2 am we awoke to winds howling and rain pouring down.   I’m glad we were smart and put the awning up before going to bed.  Have you ever had to put your awning up in the middle of the night because of strong winds and heavy rain?  Not a pleasant experience, that’s for sure.

Stormy night at Fort Worden

While the boys slept in, I took Oliver for a walk up to Fort Worden to get an up close and personal look at the historic buildings and also get a feel for where the movie “An Officer and a Gentleman,” was filmed.  I also thought about those crepes I would make for the boys when they woke up . . . Airstream trailer road trip and glamping around the Olympic National Park

Map of Port Townsend Fort Worden

It was day three of our Olympic Peninsula Loop which meant, two more days before returning back to reality of corporate America (insert sad face).   We enjoyed a breakfast of chocolate croissants, coffee and hot cocoa. With maps spread out over our morning table we began analyzing how our day would be spent.

“Can we go to the beach mommy?” B asks me pointing to Rialto Beach on the map . . .

Hubby and I looked at each other — “Yes! Let’s do that.”

And off we went . . .

Airstream trailer road trip and glamping around the Olympic National Park

Day two takes us north from beautiful Pacific Beach State Park to a day full of beach explorations, rainforest discoveries and settling into our new campsite.

Olympic Peninsula Loop Day 2 with our Airstream

Have a look at our beautiful Washington Coast.  With miles upon miles of undeveloped land, it is easy to sink in the vast beauty that is found here.  For me, this rest stop was special as I was really able to feel like I was “away from it all.” Continue reading »

Airstream Road Trip Along the Olympic Peninsula at Pacific Beach State Park

The wonderful thing about Airstreaming this time of year is the amount of daylight hours you get :)  This means, for people who work during the day in the 9 to 5 rigamarole can still have a good chance at leaving right after work on a Friday while enjoying their new surroundings that evening if their destination is relatively close.

At least that’s how it is for me  . . . until I win the lottery and can afford to travel full time, while homeschooling B (he says he would LOVE it if we could do it).  Since I’m terrible at math I avoid buying lottery tickets — but every once in a while I do, lol :)

We arrived at Pacific Beach State Park / Campground in a few hours after leaving our home in Bellevue.  After we unhitched and set up, we took a walk on the beach and started to discuss how nice of a drive it was — and it was so close to our home.  We need to make trips like this more often.  It would be crazy not too we agreed!
