GalenaPass1

Our Rockin’ the Rockies road trip continues and we begin our day saying goodbye to the Salmon River Campground with destination:  Ketchum, Idaho ahead ♥

Remember that kind park ranger I met at the Salmon River Campground?  Stopping at the Sawtooth Fish Hatchery came highly recommended by him.

“Bradley can fish to his heart’s content,” he told me.

And never mind the rain — that doesn’t stop our little B from fishing . . .

The drive from the fish hatchery to Ketchum, ID was such a beautiful one but I will admit, it was nice to arrive at our camp in the Sun Valley ski parking lot.  For years I have been listening to hubby tell me all the wonderful things about Ketchum (he ski bummed here back in the day) so I was pretty excited to be in Ketchum to see first hand what he has been talking about.

After we settled in we freshened up and took a walk into town to have dinner at the Pioneer Saloon.   This place is known for it’s thick cut steaks, fluffy (and huge) baked potatoes with all the fixing’s and cold draft beer — not to mention the swift and friendly service.  The prices are good, the food is mouth watering and the atmosphere is both “first date,” and family friendly.  Just come early as this place gets super busy at night.

The next morning we hitched up the Airstream and parked her downtown (so she’d be all ready to go when we were done).  Breakfast was our first mission before heading to the Ketchum Arts Festival.

We had breakfast at the darling restaurant called “The Kneadery,” right in town and let me tell you — this place was such a pleasure to dine at.  Bright and light atmosphere, spacious seating both indoors and out and the food was wonderful.  Huge portions and great prices.  The coffee was excellent too ♥  You can check out the mouth watering menu here if you would like :)

After breakfast we casually made our way down the streets of downtown Ketchum to the art festival . . .

Artists from all over come and partake in this festival.  Antler’s are a big part of this festival and you can find them in almost every form from chandeliers to cute little decorations where they have been tied with colorful string.

After a long time keeping in touch via Twitter, I was so much looking forward to meeting fellow Tweeps Ken and Debbie Newman from Ken Newman Sculptures.  If you are interested in people who travel with their RV’s then you should really check out their blog as they are on a “Sculpting on the Road,” journey.

Debbie showed me all of the hard work and effort that goes into each piece they make. Both B and I were in complete awe. Such amazing talent.  I absolutely fell in love with the bronze Labrador retriever . . . reminded me so much of my sweet Buddy.

Then out of the corner of my eye I spied an Airstream.  I was so intrigued by this Airstream because it had this black bubble thing on top and I wanted to know so badly what it was for.

As luck would have it, I was looking at one of those Antlers with the beautiful string tied around it and the lady who was selling it asked me what I would do with it if I bought it.

“Well I would hang it in my Airstream . . . somewhere,” I said smiling.

“Oh you have an Airstream?  We do too!”

And well, that’s where the story begins.

That Airstream belonged to her and her husband and that black bubble thing?

Satellite . . . . right!

She asked if we would like a tour and of course we immediately said, “Yes!”  Even B was excited.

She and her hubby travel often in their Airstream while working on the road (hence the satellite for cell and internet reception).  When not working they love to fly fish — they even tie their own flies on the road.

I was smitten . . .

We exchanged phone numbers and vowed to keep in touch.  Hopefully one day our paths will cross again.  I really liked her a lot.  She was so full of energy and made me laugh so much!  Some of the stories she shared with us — wow — so amazing.

Just like this trip so far.

Amazing.

Our next stop will be in Jackson Hole where I feel our trip really starts to ramp up.  We went up so high in a hot air balloon — we ate at some fantastic restaurants with sweeping views.  We went white water rafting on the Snake river and explored Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone too.

I hope you enjoy following along because I really love sharing my Airstream adventures with you ♥

xoxo
