“Mommy? Mommy, are you still sleeping?” B is whispering this into my ear as I sleep . . .
I don’t say a word, hoping he will take pity on his poor tired and sleepy mom and let me be, for at least a moment longer.
“Mommy? Mommy?”
This boy of mine. No matter what time he goes to bed, as soon as the crack of dawn is upon us, he is up and at ’em.
“B — we are on vacation — you can sleep in if you want . . .” I try and convince him.
He is still standing next to me, I can feel his presence — he is probably pondering his next move . . .
Then hubby says, “Good Morning B,” with all smiles (I can hear him smiling, does that make sense?) and he is next to rise and now it’s official, our day has begun. But after the fog clears from my sleepy head, I am grateful for the early morning wake up call. I look outside and see that the clouds moved out overnight and a beautiful pastel sunrise is on its way.
These two posts of mine covering our trip to Kalaloch Beach State Park is proof of the Olympic Peninsula’s moody weather behavior. Cloudy, cozy and drizzling one day and the next? Nothing but blue skies. I took at least a million pictures.
Hubby and B headed down to the beach for a game of soccer while Oliver and I pulled ourselves together and made a skillet breakfast fit for an Olympic Peninsula king :)
After breakfast, we packed into the truck and drove a quick minute up the road to Beach 4.
Beach 4 is home to some pretty interesting tide pools we learned from some fellow campers. It was a, “must see,” according to them. So off we went. An old driftwood bridge welcomed us as we arrived . . .
If you look closely, there on that big sun drenched, barnacle encrusted rock, you can see the ocean’s waterline at high tide. Where B is exploring, that entire area is underwater where at low tide, offers up some pretty cool opportunities to check out the sea life. We saw some beautiful sea anemones, star fish, hermit crabs and some baby fish of some sort. The colors of the sea creatures were completely captivating.
Sea stars everywhere — pink families in front and orange ones farther out . . .
We spent the day exploring Beach 4 and just taking things easy. We really wanted to soak up our environment because the weather was just too perfect on this day so when we came back to camp, we stuck around. We spent time reading in front of the ocean’s glorious view and every now and then, we would hike back down to the beach and walk to our heart’s content. We chatted it up with people on the beach and both B and Oliver made new friends.
When it was time for lunch, out came the Toas-tite. Clearly, we can’t get enough of the melty concoctions this little gadget produces.
For dinner? Caramelized mushrooms and soft boiled egg toasts with a lemony hollandaise sauce. It was a super easy dinner to make that delivered big on the yum factor.
“Mommy, can you make this again,” B asked.
Love him.
As the sun began to set, we all agreed that we had to pinch ourselves with how lucky we were with the weather. Being able to experience both sides of the Olympic Peninsula’s weather was a true treat from the drizzly day prior to this glorious sunny and summer-like day. Once again, the Olympic Peninsula did not disappoint.
Thank you for being here,
With all my heart ~ Monica xoxo
Great pictures!
Thanks Jocelyn :) xoxo
Well Monica your pictures certainly don’t disappoint but Oliver steals the show! First with his bed head wrapped in plaid, then with the gorgeous sunset! I’d say lucky you and lucky dog! xoxoxo
Hi Sandi — I’m so glad you enjoyed Oliver in that post :) I loved his hair too in that plaid blanket, I couldn’t help but post that picture lol ! Thank you for being here XOXO
Monica….your photos are stunning. The depth of colour…the clarity….the subjects….I am just amazed. Thank you for sharing a piece of your talents!
Thank you for sharing this beautiful comment with me :) I had to smile big xx
Darn you Monica, another place to add to our Rpod bucket list. LOL Michael says he’s been here to which I exclaimed, “WHAT?? you haven’t taken me to THIS coast?” :)
And we have to ask, where did you get the little Toast-ette? OMG I can see why B exclaimed, I got hungry just looking at the pictures… hee hee. And I love that it makes poached eggs – my favorite (with Mimosas).
See, this is why I’m a blog fan of yours!
Laura, you are too funny :) I love your comments to me! If you scroll down the right hand side of my blog here — you will see a logo for Toas-tite. I believe it will take your right their purchase page (I have no financial interest with them, btw — just LOVE it so much). If you come to Kalaloch and the OP in general on Hwy 101, you would love it. So much to do if you love the ocean from the tide pools to simply walking the beach that stretches for miles and miles to enjoying breakfast at the Kalaloch Lodge just down the road from Kalaloch State Park. It’s a true place to unwind and get your lungs full of fresh ocean air. Do you have a trip planned to the SJI’s yet? I’m so curious. I am missing on those islands a lot lately. xx
Absolutely stunning. I’ve pinned this post and hope to tote our old 1966 Serro Scotty here at some point. We camped the Olympic Peninsula a few summers ago, but your enchanting photos make me want to return. Thanks!
I just found your blog today and I love it! Your pictures are a work of art. I also enjoy your unique “finds.” Thanks for sharing!!
