Update January 2013 { New pictures have been added of the coming alongs of our Airstream }

I’ve been pretty preoccupied with outfitting our new Airstream.  If you are a regular reader of J5MM you may remember my crazy obsession with decorating/outfitting our first Airstream here.  On this page I will be documenting and taking pictures of how our new Airstream is evolving and the things I really love (or don’t) about it.

I’ve also been a pinning maniac over on Pinterest and one day, if I win the lottery, all of my pins will become a reality, lol.  You can click on the pinterest logo above to follow me if you would like :)

Here is my kitchen ♥  Those are new dishes on the counter that I recently purchased.  I really love them.  My ipad is mounted on the Airstream with velcro for now; however I have on order a Walle Ipod Mount system that sweet Jessa of 1337Stream shared on her site.  If you haven’t seen her website you must check it out.  I am obsessed with how they upgraded their Airstream!!

How I dry dishes.  Oh and guess what?  The hood about the range FAILED over the weekend.  I ran the fan for 30 minutes while I had this in the oven and then all at once, the fan and light just turned off.  Good thing Airstream gives you a great warranty package.  UpdateThe Fan did not fail, Airstream informed me that the fuse blew and needed to be replaced :)

Update:  A better way to go about washing dishes in a single sink.  Complete story/method here.

How I Wash Dishes in my Airstream

Beloved Cast Iron Skillets – keep ‘em well oiled and place paper plates in between to prevent oily bottoms

I cut out felt circles with some pinking shears to place between the plates to give them a cushy ride while under tow

Nestled dishes.  Goodwill is a fun great place to find treasures for your trailer.  I found those silver bowls there!

Okay, these lights are wonderful!  Without them this deep cabinet is rather dark at night and it’s difficult to see what you have put in there.  I suggest you run to your local Costco and pick up a pack.  They retail for $28 and you get 6 of them.   Here is a link to them on my Facebook Page

Update Ahh this cabinet.  Do you see how everything is neatly stacked and organized?  Can you see the items waaaaay in the back?   If I needed to access any of the items back there — everything in the front had to come out.  Drove. Me. Nuts.  This was something I discovered after a few road trips and I knew there just had to be a better way.

FINALLY a solution!!

Enter sliding plastic bins.  From the Container Store, the system is by “Like-it” and they are called “Short Wide Bin”  the LED lights are still working wonderfully too.

Two shelves fit inside perfectly and the top shelf slides right out allowing me to easily access the typical pantry staples.  This is  So.  Much.  Better.

How my lower drawer is organized

I found these stainless steel martini-margarita-wine-tumblers on amazon.com

Update:  1/20/13: A collapsible salad spinner – who knew? Another reason I shopping at Ross.

Update: Speaking of shopping at Ross – I found these colorful Laguiole steak knives there for only $15.99.  I’m still scratching my head on why they are so inexpensive there and so expensive elsewhere.

Oliver’s rug on the sheepskin and him in his bed down below.  The furnace vent is aimed on his bed which makes it toasty warm.

I heart this bathroom.  There are two white walls and a white door which continue to add to the retro/modern feel of the entire trailer.

I couldn’t stand the doors on the upper cabinet.  They were driving me insane.   They were impossible to open thanks to a special (stopper) so that while under tow, the drawers would stay shut so I just removed them.

Update:   Added a round mirror I found at Target in the bathroom so B can see himself when brushing his hair and teeth.  Attached it via sticky velcro strips so it can be easily removed if I need to have a handheld mirror.

Where we keep the magazine/book holder

Update:  1/20/13:  Where we keep our ski boots after a day of skiing (there is a furnace under the dinette/sofa that blows some serious warm heat so the boots dry off and the bonus is that we get to put on warm boots the following morning :)  I should caution keeping anything too close to the furnace vent as the ski goggle holder on my helmet MELTED off from the extreme heat.  Yikes.

    Thanks
    LilNomad

    • I purchased the bamboo box and the oil/vinegar jars at the Container Store :) I’ll send you an email with the links!

  2. So many neat ideas for the Airstream space. Thanks for the tip on those little cushy ride felt circles for the plates, too!

  3. Absolutely love your Airstream decor!! So cute and modern!

    Patty

  4. I’m so glad I found your blog! Love Love Love this interior and it will be an inspiration for me as we fix up our 2002 22ft CCD. I wll have lots of questions I am sure. It wil take me a long time to go through your archives!

  5. Cool! Love the colors . Not too much, just enough. Where did you get the utensils? Barb

    • Thank you Barbara — The knives are from Kuhn Rikon, the forks, spoons and knives are really from a pish-posh of places ranging from Target to Pottery Barn to Goodwill. I love to use color so I am always keeping my eyes peeled when I am out and about :)

  6. Hi,

Love your Airstream and what you’ve done to it. You decorated it with such colorful lovely shapes and designs. You are so lucky to have this.
I am in Oregon and some day will be able to travel. Miss the days when I would meet my parent with fifth wheel. It was so much fun, really miss it.

I love the Northwest and what a beautiful country to see. Keep on enjoying your travels.
    Regards,
    geri

    • Thank you Geri. How fortunate you are to live in Oregon — we absolutely love it there with all of the beautiful parks and the coast. I am happy to hear you have such wonderful memories of meeting your parents and camping — hopefully soon you will be able to travel again and until then I am sending you happy future travel wishes…♥

  7. Love your space Monica! We have the same unit and so love what you have done. Can you provide a source for your magnetic wall/spice holder next to stove? I can’t find one anywhere. If you pass through Florida, will you do my house?? ; ) Thanks for posting!

    • Becky, thank you! So that magnetic spice holder — ahhh — that was a dilemma because I so wanted a white one (to match the overhead cabinets) but could not find one anywhere. So I went the DIY route and purchased a magnetic board from the Container Store and covered it with white contact paper. I managed to apply the contact paper virtually bubble free by spraying the surface of the board with a 1 to 5 ratio of soap to water. The allowed the contact paper to “slip” around and allow me to squeeze out any bubbles that were trapped underneath. Then I allowed it to dry overnight and voila — white magnetic spice holder :) Hope that helps! ♥♥

      • Ah! I am missing the DIY gene. I just may have to admire yours from afar. I too prefer the white. I actually found a link for a white one for $85 and can’t find the site now. Me, contact paper, cutting…I see a hot mess on the wall, haha. Great end results. Love the whole look of your AS. Thanks for the reply. Becky~

        • I searched online forever trying to find one with no success — if you happen to find that website you are referring to, I would LOVE to know! xoxo

  8. Beautiful! I noticed you don’t have your dinette set up, do you just keep it down as a sleeping area? What pillow are you using over the table itself to keep the couch level? Love the blankets over the couches too, where did you find them? We have a 2012 25′ International Signature and I’d like to borrow some of your ideas ;)

    • Thank you Renee! Congratulations on your 25′ International — the 25′ is a great size!!

I am flattered you want to borrow some of my decorating ideas :) We do like to keep our dinette set down. The cushions from the seats of the dinette and the back cushion of the sofa (that runs along the two view windows) serve as the “top” cushion for our dinette. I hope that made sense! They fit together like a puzzle of sorts and it works out well. If you would like to email me I can send you a picture of how the cushions fit together without the sheepskin rugs on top.

The blankets are actually sheepskin rugs that I found at Costo. They do bring them out every year so I would keep your eyes peeled.

I love Costco for finding things for the Airstream as well as the Container Store, Target, Ikea and especially Ross for kitchen essentials.

Keep me posted on how your decorating goes and happy travels! ♥♥

      • Thanks so much for the info! A quick question, what made you decide to go with the 27′ FB rather than the 28′? We are planning on sizing up in the next few years (our 3 kids are small now but I already know I want more space!) and are trying to decide between the two. Just curious on what your thoughts are.
