I installed a magnetic strip above the stove to hold my knives.  Found it at Ikea and man, that thing is seriously strong — it holds my knives in place even with their plastic blade covers on.

Okay, these lights are wonderful! Without them this deep cabinet is rather dark at night and it’s difficult to see what you have put in there. I suggest you run to your local Costco and pick up a pack. They retail for $28 and you get 6 of them. Here is a link to them on my Facebook Page

Update: Ahh this cabinet. Do you see how everything is neatly stacked and organized? Can you see the items waaaaay in the back? If I needed to access any of the items back there — everything in the front had to come out. Drove. Me. Nuts. This was something I discovered after a few road trips and I knew there just had to be a better way.

FINALLY a solution!!

Enter sliding plastic bins. From the Container Store, the system is by “Like-it” and they are called “Short Wide Bin” the LED lights are still working wonderfully too.

Two shelves fit inside perfectly and the top shelf slides right out allowing me to easily access the typical pantry staples. This is So. Much. Better.

How my lower drawer is organized

I found these stainless steel martini-margarita-wine-tumblers on amazon.com

Update: 1/20/13: A collapsible salad spinner – who knew? Another reason I shopping at Ross.

Update: Speaking of shopping at Ross – I found these colorful Laguiole steak knives there for only $15.99. I’m still scratching my head on why they are so inexpensive there and so expensive elsewhere.

I couldn’t stand the doors on the upper cabinet. They were driving me insane. They were impossible to open thanks to a special (stopper) so that while under tow, the drawers would stay shut so I just removed them.

Update: Added a round mirror I found at Target in the bathroom so B can see himself when brushing his hair and teeth. Attached it via sticky velcro strips so it can be easily removed if I need to have a handheld mirror.

Where we keep the magazine/book holder

Update: 1/20/13: Where we keep our ski boots after a day of skiing (there is a furnace under the dinette/sofa that blows some serious warm heat so the boots dry off and the bonus is that we get to put on warm boots the following morning :) I should caution keeping anything too close to the furnace vent as the ski goggle holder on my helmet MELTED off from the extreme heat. 1. Where did you get the lil square olive oil/vinegar jars and the wood box you have next to your stove. Ive been looking for this time for sometime for my 25ft CCD.
    Thanks
    LilNomad

  2. So many neat ideas for the Airstream space. Thanks for the tip on those little cushy ride felt circles for the plates, too!

  3. Absolutely love your Airstream decor!! So cute and modern!

    Patty

  4. I’m so glad I found your blog! Love Love Love this interior and it will be an inspiration for me as we fix up our 2002 22ft CCD. I wll have lots of questions I am sure. It wil take me a long time to go through your archives!

  5. Cool! Love the colors . Not too much, just enough. Where did you get the utensils? Barb

    • Thank you Barbara — The knives are from Kuhn Rikon, the forks, spoons and knives are really from a pish-posh of places ranging from Target to Pottery Barn to Goodwill. I love to use color so I am always keeping my eyes peeled when I am out and about :)

  6. Hi,

Love your Airstream and what you’ve done to it. You decorated it with such colorful lovely shapes and designs. You are so lucky to have this.
I am in Oregon and some day will be able to travel. Miss the days when I would meet my parent with fifth wheel. It was so much fun, really miss it.

I love the Northwest and what a beautiful country to see. Keep on enjoying your travels.
    Regards,
    geri

    • Thank you Geri. How fortunate you are to live in Oregon — we absolutely love it there with all of the beautiful parks and the coast. I am happy to hear you have such wonderful memories of meeting your parents and camping — hopefully soon you will be able to travel again and until then I am sending you happy future travel wishes…♥

  7. Love your space Monica! We have the same unit and so love what you have done. Can you provide a source for your magnetic wall/spice holder next to stove? I can’t find one anywhere. If you pass through Florida, will you do my house?? ; ) Thanks for posting!

    • Becky, thank you! So that magnetic spice holder — ahhh — that was a dilemma because I so wanted a white one (to match the overhead cabinets) but could not find one anywhere. So I went the DIY route and purchased a magnetic board from the Container Store and covered it with white contact paper. I managed to apply the contact paper virtually bubble free by spraying the surface of the board with a 1 to 5 ratio of soap to water. The allowed the contact paper to “slip” around and allow me to squeeze out any bubbles that were trapped underneath. Then I allowed it to dry overnight and voila — white magnetic spice holder :) Hope that helps! ♥♥

      • Ah! I am missing the DIY gene. I just may have to admire yours from afar. I too prefer the white. I actually found a link for a white one for $85 and can’t find the site now. Me, contact paper, cutting…I see a hot mess on the wall, haha. Great end results. Love the whole look of your AS. Thanks for the reply. Becky~

        • I searched online forever trying to find one with no success — if you happen to find that website you are referring to, I would LOVE to know! xoxo

  8. Beautiful! I noticed you don’t have your dinette set up, do you just keep it down as a sleeping area? What pillow are you using over the table itself to keep the couch level? Love the blankets over the couches too, where did you find them? We have a 2012 25′ International Signature and I’d like to borrow some of your ideas ;)

    • Thank you Renee! Congratulations on your 25′ International — the 25′ is a great size!!

I am flattered you want to borrow some of my decorating ideas :) We do like to keep our dinette set down. The cushions from the seats of the dinette and the back cushion of the sofa (that runs along the two view windows) serve as the “top” cushion for our dinette. I hope that made sense! They fit together like a puzzle of sorts and it works out well. If you would like to email me I can send you a picture of how the cushions fit together without the sheepskin rugs on top.

The blankets are actually sheepskin rugs that I found at Costo. They do bring them out every year so I would keep your eyes peeled.

I love Costco for finding things for the Airstream as well as the Container Store, Target, Ikea and especially Ross for kitchen essentials.

Keep me posted on how your decorating goes and happy travels! ♥♥

      • Thanks so much for the info! A quick question, what made you decide to go with the 27′ FB rather than the 28′? We are planning on sizing up in the next few years (our 3 kids are small now but I already know I want more space!) and are trying to decide between the two. Just curious on what your thoughts are.

        • I wasn’t crazy about the 28′ because it had the separate dining booth and the TV was right behind it on the wall — so if someone was sitting in the booth their head would be blocking the TV for someone who was sitting on the sofa who wanted to watch it. Goodness! Did that make sense? lol !!

  9. Love it! I’ve got to know where you got those awesome dishes!!! Those plates and bowls are the cutest things! Love the decor of the trailer, too!

  10. We have a 27 foot airstream . I have been looking for a way to use as much space as possible without having clutter and you have done this. Where did you get the white board by the burners ? How is it attached to the wall? Where did you purchase all the containers on the whiteboard? Barbara. Jean

    • Hi Barbara — so the white board is actually a silver magnetic board I bought from the Container Store. I covered it with white contact paper. The white containers I also purchased from the Container Store in their home office department. They are actually white magnetic pencil holders and a note pad holder. The white spice holders are also from (surprise) the Container Store :)

I hope that helped you xoxo

  11. Hi Monica. Fabulous photos and great tips. I saw your comments about your bathroom locker. Ever notice how nobody ever wants to talk about their bathroom? Lol. I’m glad you did because I’ve been looking for solutions for that upper locker. The door with the massive mirror. What a pain. It’s going to be totally in the way when I install nice towel hardware. I would love to see some more pics of your latest modifications to the space. I am thinking of installing the plexi sliders and backlighting. Any feedback would be welcomed. Thanks :)

    • Hi Anna-Marie :) I really think your idea of installing the plexi sliders would be a major step above the huge, heavy, massive mirror. Sure the mirror is great, but you could always hang a mirror on the wall (opposite wall from where the towels would go). Plus I think it would look very chic with the sliders and lights inside….

For me, my bathroom cabinet is the junk drawer of my Airstream. I can’t stand it. I have tried so many things to try and keep things in their place in there with hardly any luck. Currently I have two wire baskets that fit in there and I keep all my tall bottles (shampoo, hairspray, etc) inside them. It seems to help keep those items in place while we are under two, but I still wish I could figure out a better solution. I was even thinking to install a shelf with a lip to hold smaller items higher up, inside.

If I ever come up with something I’ll make sure to post pictures and I’ll keep an eye out on Platinum Airship to see what you come up with.

      Good luck!!

  12. Hi Monica,

Nice job with the setup of the Airstream. I have a quick question for you. I really like the placemats you have pictured here. Do you remember where you got them?

    Thanks a bunch,

    -J

  13. Hi Monica,

I think your Airstream looks amazing! That is totally my taste, I was looking at a used and a new Airstream this weekend and can’t wait to have my own. After seeing what you did to your trailer it makes me able to imagine how awesome they can be with a little decorating skill. I also love that white magnetic board you made as I see others have commented on, but I am really interested in those adorable purple lights on the floor, and the white lights in the bathroom. Would you mind sharing where you purchased them and how to install them? Thanks so much, Moira

P.S. I will be following your blog for more great ideas…thanks …you sure do have impeccable taste!

    • Hi Moira !! First of all, I am so flattered by your sweet, kind words — thank you !! The lights that I have under the dinette that run along the bottom of sofa/gaucho I purchased at Costco. They are LED lights and I found them in the section where the faucets and household hardware items are found. What I really like about them is that they are adhesive and come with a remote control to pick ANY color you would like! B loves the green color since that’s his favorite color and I love the purple. Blue is really awesome too and white is very glamorous, I think. I hope you can find them — if not, I was just at Ikea and they have them there as well but without the remote. The fairy lights in the bathroom I bought at my local craft store (Michaels) in the wedding/floral section. They are battery operated and one strand fits perfectly under the upper cabinet. You can put them on a timer or just turn them on whenever you want. They look so pretty at night. Please keep me posted on what Airstream you decide upon. I think this initial stage of deciding is the most exciting time ever !! Good luck and big {{{hugs}}} ♥

  14. Hi Monica, Thanks so much and Happy New Year! Best, Moira

  15. Ridiculously adorable!! I LOVE it! Just out of curiosity, where do you keep all the food?

    • Thank you Jess !! Believe it or not (and I should totally do a post on this) but my little fridge can hold SO much food. I’m always so amazed. Just when I think I over packed the fridge, there is still room left. I also keep some canned goods (tuna, beans, etc.) in the upper cabinet above the kitchen and then in the main cabinet next to the stove (the really deep cabinet) I keep our cereal, bread, chips, etc. I used to have a shelf in there that slid out but I took it out – not because I didn’t like it — but because I get bored and I’m always moving stuff around lol.

  16. Love your space and recipes! We made the short ribs and home and they were yummy!
I couldn’t tell from your pics where you keep your pots and pans.
    Happy New Year! Lisa

    • So happy you made the short ribs !! They are really the best :) I keep my pressure cooker under the gaucho/sofa since it’s kind of on the big side. Then I keep my cast iron skillets (10″ skillet, 5″ skillet and griddle) nestled together on the bottom of the oven. My two other sauce pans I keep under the sink along with my mixing bowls. I should really take a picture of that for you! ♥

  17. Just love all the stuff you have put together in your A/S. Do tell, how you keep the sherling on the sofa….I have a terrible time keeping ours in place. As soon as we move around the A/S it starts sliding off….do you have a secret?

    • Thank you Betty ! Ours slides around as well and drives me batty. I did put some silicone dots which help a little but not much. Lately I’ve been thinking about attaching a strap of some sort to the backside and running it under the cushion and attaching it to the other side of the sheepskin. I’m going to definitely try this before our next big trip next month and will post pictures.

  18. I love what you did with your trailer! How did you get the doors above your bed to turn greenish yellow? Is there film on it or did you put in different colored light bulbs? Also, is there lighting underneath the couch in the kitchen?
    beautiful job!
    Sincerely,
    Janet

    • Thanks Jan !! So the yellow/green tint in the overhead cabinets comes from our pillows (that we sleep on at night) — they have yellow pillowcases on them. If I put orange pillowcases on them, the entire look would turn to orange. Funny isn’t it? I love it! Then at night I swap them out for the decorative pillows on our bed. There is lighting under the couch in the kitchen but it’s recessed so it’s hard to see. Hope that helped you xoxo

  19. As a new owner of an Eddie Bauer 2014 airstream i am beyond excited at the nesting process. Thanks for your ideas! Especially about storage. :)

  20. Love your blog!! And it is so nice to see the inside ideas for storage of your Airstream. I too am in the nesting stage of my 30′…. love the space, but moved up from a 19′ and I still travel like I have a 19′……with almost all empty cupboards. So it is nice to get some ideas as to spreading out some of my ‘glamping’ items. I would love to know what you used to attach your iPad to the wall in your kitchen. Thanks for all the great ideas and the fantastic blog. Keep up the good work!

    • Hi Tracy, thanks so much for your sweet words! Wow — you went from a 19 to 30? You must be in spaciousness heaven ;) The 30 are so nice I have to say !! For my iPad — there is a great product out there called Wall-e where you attach a special case to your iPad and then attach a mount to the wall. Here is the link: http://www.studioproper.com.au/products/ipad-3rd-4th-gen-pro-bumper/ I love the look of it — very clean but I was kind of lazy and just used industrial strength self adhesive velcro circles that I purchased at my local craft store. Works really well too (and cheaper). Hope that helps and safe travels !! xoxo

  21. Hi Monica,
I was wondering Monica about the winter airstreaming you do. I don’t have a trailer yet, but have been looking at them this last year. When I mentioned to the salesman that I wanted to use it in the winter, he wasn’t very enthusiastic about doing this.
What do you do to prepare for winter travel with your Airstream? Do you have an extra heater, generator, a particular vehicle type that works best?
I have looked through your fantastic blogs on your cool winter trips (I am originally from Canada but live in Colorado now) and I love winter, so I think winter airstreaming would be great!
Is there a blog you have written about this in, and I just missed it? Or could you share what you do?
    Thanks
Love your blog – really beautiful photos. Are you a professional photographer?
    Blessings,
    Janet

    • Hi Jan — thanks so much for reaching out! We love Airstreaming in our trailer in winter, that’s for sure. You’ve inspired me to finally put up a post covering exactly how we do this. I get so many emails about this that I just need to do it already, lol.

I’m going to work on it tonight for you and hopefully get the post up this evening!

      HUGS to you xoxo

Thank you for the sweet words about my photography :) Means so much xoxo I do freelance photography on my trips, so yes, I guess I am a professional :)

  22. Hi Monica!

I have been following you for around a year now. We traded a 30′ motor home for a 25′ airstream that looks very similar to yours. You have been a wonderful inspiration on how to outfit the new digs. Love, love, love all your pics and the places you go! I send these to my hubby as hints ;) I am amazed at how much you have in the airstream. Does everything travel ok? I am struggling finding places to put everything in the kitchen (the 25 pantry is not very useful). In tow, things get tossed all over the place like a popcorn. I do pack things tightly with cushions wraps etc. Any hints?

    Thanks!
    Lisa

    • Hi Lisa — I am so sorry for the delay in getting back to you!! I totally understand the frustration with things getting tossed around while under tow. Over the last couple of years Airstreaming I have a learned a few things. For example, in any given cupboard, if you have space in between your items those things will most likely fall over while under tow. Non-slip shelf liner is a must and I am sure you already know that. What I have been doing lately is placing kitchen towels in the areas in the cupboards to fill those “spaces” in between items so everything stays close together. I know your pull out pantry very well as I had the same in our first Airstream (2006 25′ Safari). If things are falling over in there I would roll up a kitchen towel and put it in those shelves too. I also use my sink to store things while under tow. I take a big bathing towel and wrap my coffee maker and anything else that is on my kitchen counter and put it in the sink. I’m trying to recall where I put everything but then remembered this post: http://just5moreminutes.com/blog/?p=11874114 I hope that helped !!

  23. Love this!!! Amazing!

I had a question- Where did you get your stainless steel oven top cover?

    • Thanks Sharon !! That stainless steel oven top cover came with our Airstream. I bet you could call Jackson Center and they would be able to sell you one :)

  24. From a comment on airforums, I followed the dots and ended up here. Just love your homey AS. I can see that you love decorating, love cooking and love food. What a great combination with an AS. Your photos remind me of Manhattan condo in a cooking magazine. Very, very nice. It will take a while to explore this blog. The reason for following the dots is that a few years back you owned and were praising the advantages of a 25′ AS, but now you have a 27. Since I am researching the practicality and size of an AS for living in for 5-9 months of the year (myself, wife, and dog) to follow the sun, I am very curious as to why you decided to upgrade to a bigger model when you seemed very happy with the 25?

    • Hello Craig :)

I am completely, absolutely so flattered with your nice compliment about my photos. Thank you SO much !!

So the story behind how we decided to switch from our 25 to 27 started off when we backed up our 25′ into a post on our piece of land and we put a nice big dent in our bumper. We took her down to Airstream of Seattle and got a quote from our insurance company for repairs. While on the lot we started walking around looking at different models and that’s when I saw the 27′ International Signature again in person (first time was in Spokane on our way up to Rossland, BC for a ski trip and I fell in love with the unit and eventually the love faded off because I realized that #1 the unit was very expensive and #2, we were perfectly happy with our 25). When I saw that unit again I fell in love all over. I guess you could say that the contrast of the dark woods and silver interior compared to our 25′s maple cabinetry was rather appealing to me. I also liked the queen bed that you could walk around because since we travel so much in wintertime, the twin beds on our 25′ always came with a chilly draft from the windows that were above. On our 27′ we don’t feel any drafts since we are in the middle of the room. But that is the ONLY negative we have about the twin beds — otherwise we think the layout of our 25 was perfect! The twins gave so much more space.

So in a way, I guess you could say had we not bumped into that pole on our property — we would still have our 25′!

In your situation I would highly recommend a 25. It will be big enough for you and your wife and your dog! We find that we can’t take our 27′ to places we used to with our 25′ (sad) because she is so much bigger. It really is amazing the difference in size!

I hope that helped you and again, thank you so much for your sweet words!

Keep in touch and let me know what you decide upon!
